About Kenana Knitters
We are proud to be the official distributors of Kenana Knitters products in Southern Africa. Kenana Knitters produces a fun range of hand knitted, homespun woolen stuffed animals in a wide range of designs and characters.
Kenana knitters started in Njoro Kenya to help the rural women in the surrounding farming areas find some much needed income by using their spinning and knitting skills. Njoro is mainly a farming area and most of the agricultural work is given to the men, however the wages are insufficient to support large and extended families. By creating fair employment to a large group of women in Kenya, they are now able to earn an income and help support their families and build a secure future for their children. Kenana Knitters is a self-supporting knitting co-operative that pays a fair wage. In addition to their sales, Kenana funds a range of welfare projects in Njoro: education, eye tests, health and HIV/Aids counseling.
Their range is hand knitted out of wool that is purchased locally in Kenya from another artisan group. The wool is homespun and dyed with vegetable dyes from their gardens. Minimal equipment is required to knit these products proving this to be a community commited to environmentally friendly practices.
We import a wide range of their knitted soft animals. Please contact us should you wish us to send you our price list or to locate a stockist of Kenana Knitters near you.
